After reading this recent Jezebel post on “Stiletto Stoners”, I had to remove the site from my Blogroll. Is the fact that women are smoking pot really shocking? In the post, Jezebel’s Senior Contributing editor Tracie (spelled like a stripper) Egan writes,
“In a absurdly-titled article titled “Stiletto Stoners” in the October issue of Marie Claire, writer Yael Kohen reports some shocking news: Successful, educated women in their late 20s/early 30s, with demanding careers are smoking pot!”
First of all, the title of the Marie Claire article is fucking genius. Second, how can anyone find this shocking? Female “potheads” is not a new trend. The new trend is mainstream media reporting on the subject. The Marie Claire article sparked some interesting discussion throughout the blogosphere and was the topic of this recent segment on NBC’s Today Show.
Tracie further pissed me off with,
“Wow. Who would’ve thought that an expensive habit that lends itself well to introspective—albeit retarded—thoughts would popular amongst women with a little spending money and a lot on their minds?”
Please note the grammatical error. Also note although I am stoned, I am still capable of sharing my “retarded” thoughts using proper English.
A little retarded stoner math for you…
A Stiletto Stoner meets friends for cocktails at the Standard Hotel at 8:00PM. She hangs with her buddies until midnight and takes a taxi home. The Stiletto Stoner consumes an average of 1.5 drinks per hour. Each drink costs $15 excluding a $2 tip for the bartender. Taxi fare home to the Village is $10 including tip. What were the Stiletto Stoner’s total expenses for the evening?
4 hours X 1.5 drinks/hour = approx. 6 drinks
6 drinks @ $17 per drink = $102
$102 + $10 Cab = $112 (There’s your answer)
For $112 you can buy two eighths of kindest bud around and have enough cash left over for two Starbucks’ Grande Iced Sugar Free Vanilla Lattes. Two eights will get me nice and stoned every other day/night for a month. Expensive is a relative term. Have you purchased a bottle or Brunello or Barolo lately?
It seems Tracie’s opinions about pot smoking has changed dramatically since February when she covered 35 Celebrities Who Smoke Pot.
“…it’s silly — in my opinion, anyway — to pass judgment on those who take part in something as innocuous as pot smoking, which many believe is lot less harmful for one’s body than alcohol. Besides, despite the fact that it’s technically illegal, so many people smoke weed recreationally that it’s not all that taboo.”
Maybe Tracie (spelled like a stripper) has since found Jesus.

I am still amazed at the negative connotation that pot still carries around. As compared to alcohol, the number of violent crimes and fatalities is significantly lower. Many politicans and citizens choose to ignore this and focus on the illegality of pot. Lest we forget the prohibition era when alcohol was illegal.
I work in an incredibly demanding industry and I see the effects of alcohol day after day. Withdrawals, liver disease and drunk driving victims. But pot is so bad? When people admit to smoking pot they are looked down upon. Little do they know that in their midst is a stoner that has her affairs in order. The “truth” commercials that portray stoners as stuck to the spot, giggling, drooling, hallucinating fools not only is discouraging but also offensive. There should be commercials that actually do have the truth in them. How about stoners sitting around, enjoying a conversation about music or cinema without being potrayed as heathens a la Reefer Madness. Or the ugly truth that alcohol has been the cause of more sexual assaults than pot ever could be.
But these are just my “retarded” thoughts and opinions.
